Meeting Demand Amid Supply Challenges

Although the global semiconductor shortage is gradually easing, the supply of components specific to industrial power supplies remains tight, particularly for PWM controller ICs. The limited number of manufacturers has resulted in persistent shortages, driving numerous requests for new product solutions. In response, ROHM has developed PWM controller ICs that rise to the challenge, aligning with the demanding package and performance requirements of the industrial market.

Tailored Solutions for Power Supply Circuits

Recognizing that different input AC voltage ranges necessitate a variety of semiconductors in power supply circuits, ROHM’s new products feature tailored undervoltage lockout (UVLO) levels to prevent thermal runaway during instances of supply or gate voltage drops. The four variants incorporate strategic UVLO levels, providing enhanced protection and performance for diverse applications.

Key Specifications

- Input Voltage Range: 6.9V to 28.0V

- Circuit Current: Up to 2.0mA

- Maximum Startup Current: 75µA

- Maximum Duty Cycle: 50%

- Package: Standard SOP-J8 (equivalent to JEDEC SOIC8)

With pin-to-pin compatibility with standard products, these ICs simplify redesign and modification efforts, promoting effortless integration into existing systems.

Enhancing Reliability and Longevity

All variants come equipped with a self-recovery-type UVLO function featuring voltage hysteresis. This advancement significantly boosts application reliability, reducing threshold voltage error to just ±5%, compared to the traditional ±10% seen in standard products.

Furthermore, ROHM is committed to long-term supply, ensuring that industrial equipment can operate reliably over extended periods. Looking ahead, the lineup is set to expand with new models designed for high-voltage MOSFETs and GaN devices, as well as variants that support a maximum duty cycle of 100%.

In summary, ROHM’s development of PWM controller ICs not only addresses current supply challenges but also positions the company as a key player in the evolving landscape of industrial power supply solutions.
